A destination committed to a sustainable future

Sustainable development is part of the region's DNA. Indeed, back in the 70s, biologist and botanist Jean-Marie Pelt conceived and put into practice the concept of " urban ecology ". Since then, the region has perpetuated and developed this heritage, setting an example in its sustainable and responsible approach with, among other things, an ambitious energy policy (a biomass power plant and an energy mix that is more than a third renewable), and an innovative transport policy with a hybrid dedicated-lane transport system since 2014, which will switch to hydrogen in 2026.
This commitment is one of the reasons why Metz was chosen to host the G7 Environment and Oceans Summit in 2019.
Metz Eurometropole's 2025-2030 tourism development plan incorporates the cross-cutting theme of sustainable development in its actions to build the tourism of tomorrow.

A destination committed to sustainable events

The Metz Convention Bureau can help you improve the social and environmental performance of your events. We can put you in touch with all the stakeholders involved in these issues in the Metz Eurometropolis.

Working towards a responsible future for events that respects our environment means focusing on ..:

  • Sustainability: generating long-term benefits from your event, building partnerships and local support, implementing a "zero waste" policy, and generally managing events in a more environmentally-friendly way,

  • Inclusivity: this translates, for example, into accessibility for all, a guarantee of diversity in all aspects of your event's program, an openness to the local community with sequences open to the general public,

  • andEvaluation of your event eco-design approach. This important step should enable you to measure the satisfaction of all stakeholders, and identify areas for improvement for your future operations.

Because your concerns are our concerns too, Inspire Metz's Leisure Tourism division and the Metz Convention Bureau have been ISO 20121 certified since 2022.

More broadly, the Metz Eurometropole is mobilized in a drive to promote responsible events.
The fact that our business destination has been a Sustainable Innovative Destination since 2022 is proof of this. The Inspire Metz agency is leading this initiative alongside major local players such as the Metz Eurometropole, the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Metz Événements and the UMIH de la Moselle.
