"Learning the language of the neighbor, knowing his culture, multiplying common operations, all of this is a crucial issue for our future ..." said Dominique Gros, Mayor of Metz, at the press conference of the event.

Deeply marked by the royal power of Louis XV, then annexed by Germany in 1871, Metz was remodeled by Emperor William II who turned it into an emblematic city of his reign. Owing to its mixed heritage due to the past of these two nations, Metz reveals the strengths of the European culture in this phase of intense transformation of cities and landscapes that preceded the First World War.
In recent years, the municipality has valued the German history of the city through its policy of naming public roads, for example, or as part of Metz's bid for UNESCO World Heritage.

The official inauguration will take place on Saturday 18 March, at 11 am, Place d'Armes - JF Blondel, and will kick off this week full of entertainments: economical, cultural, touristic, ...

The city is already flaunted in the colors of the two countries , and other initiatives will be discovered during your visits: more than 100 shopkeepers have mobilized to promote German products, the Tourist Office will organize bilingual theme-based tours, the WTC Metz-Saarbrücken organizes a Franco-German business lunch, the St Vincent Basilica will host the exhibition "Traces - vestiges - relics: the cultural heritage of a city in the prism of its Franco-German past" , ...
